Great Dreams Campaign

The Great Dreams is an Investment in Tubman's Future

Our Places

Having completed the renovation of the Tubman Chrysalis Center in South Minneapolis in 2020, the Great Dreams campaign kicked off to invest in critical infrastructure improvements to improve the universal accessibility, safety, and utility of Harriet Tubman Center East. These essential capital improvements include the addition of accessible restrooms and an elevator to serve the public, non-residential areas of the building, as well as electrical upgrades, new windows, partial roof replacement, and fire suppression.

Our Programs

The Great Dreams campaign also invests in the acceleration and expansion of innovative programs for Tubman, such as the creation of a Twin Cities’ pet-dedicated space in a domestic violence shelter, Harriet’s Haven for Pets. Harriet’s Haven opens later this year and will allow people experiencing domestic violence to find safety with their pets. Nearly half of domestic violence victims delay leaving, and nearly 1 in 4 return to an abusive situation due to fear over their pet's safety. In addition, animal abuse is one of the primary indicators of those domestic violence cases that are more likely to end in homicide. You can learn more about Harriet's Haven here:

The campaign also supported a feasibility study resulting in a plan to convert our shuttered commercial kitchen into a new social enterprise. Located at the Harriet Tubman Center in Maplewood, Tubman hopes to create the Tubman Food Innovation Center that will house a commercial kitchen and contract manufacturing site for consumer-packaged goods (CPG) and food service products. The contract manufacturing facility will prioritize scaling food businesses that are owned by people who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, women, non-binary, and LGBTQIA+. The commercial kitchen could make 10,000+ ready-to-eat meals per week for folks who are experiencing homelessness and living in encampments or outside of the shelter system. Our People

Tubman is deepening in both scope and scale, offering a wide array of programs and services in increasingly complex and interconnected cases. Tubman is building a stronger, more diverse, and better-equipped organization that includes investments in operational assessments of staffing and program design to enhance our capacity.

This investment will help us meet future challenges and opportunities in response to community needs, changes, and trends. It also supports our need to attract and retain the staff we need to serve with the level of knowledge, experience, and cultural competence our clients and community need.
