Available Volunteer & Internship Positions

Volunteering with Tubman is a unique and rewarding experience. There are many opportunities within our various service areas, and most positions can work as internships for school, depending on requirements.

We are always trying to work with schools and other organizations to provide paid internships for students. For any questions, call (612) 767-6680 or email jbraun@tubman.org.

  • Maplewood
    ---------------------------------------------------
    The Civil Legal Advocate Intern or Volunteer works with victims/survivors of domestic violence by responding to client calls requesting legal assistance, including writing and filing Orders for Protection (OFP). The Intern/Volunteer assists staff with maintaining the client database and may also support clients at OFP hearings in Washington County Court (on Zoom or at the courthouse).

    The Criminal Legal Advocate is responsible for attending in-custody arraignments in either the Stillwater or suburban Ramsey County areas, and relays information about criminal domestic assault cases to the clients involved.

    The Tubman Law Clerk, a rising 2L or 3L law student or recent law graduate, assists the legal department with family law and order for protection cases, including screening prospective legal clients, drafting pleadings, trial preparation, legal research and writing.

  • Maplewood Mall
    ---------------------
    The NorthStar Youth Outreach Center at Maplewood Mall connects youth and young adults ages 10-24 of all genders, and their children, to a safe place to access basic needs, receive advocacy and resource referrals. Volunteers at the Outreach Center also engage the community about Tubman and the Outreach Center services.

    The volunteers for Harriet’s Haven for Pets will assist with a variety of tasks that keep Harriet’s Haven organized and running smoothly. Volunteers will provide a positive environment for dogs and cats as well as for the individuals and families living at Tubman’s shelter for victims/survivors of relationship violence. The Shelter and Harriet’s Haven are located at Tubman East in Maplewood.

    Tubman Resource Advocates implement person-centered and culturally grounded practices to people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds through safety planning, crisis intervention, emotional support, information and connection to Tubman services, and referrals to community organizations. Resource Advocates provide these services by phone, e-mail, and in-person to individuals seeking support and services at Tubman and in the community. Work is on-site at Tubman Chrysalis in south Minneapolis.

  • Minneapolis

    The Safety Project connects low-income victims of domestic violence with attorneys to represent them in their Order for Protection cases. The Safety Project intern assists Tubman staff with administrative tasks such as processing client intake referrals, data entry, tracking volunteer attorney participation, and client evaluations.

    Assist weekend shelter staff with portioning and delivering meals to residents at our Maplewood shelter. Perfect for people working full-time during the week!

  • Maplewood

    Shelter Youth and Family Worker Interns support children who are living at Tubman’s shelter in Maplewood for families that have experienced relationship violence. Provide individualized, trauma-informed, strength-based care and advocacy through relationship building, on-site activities, field trips, and respite childcare.
