Volunteering with Tubman is a unique and rewarding experience. There are many opportunities within our various service areas, and most positions can work as internships for school, depending on requirements.

  • Maplewood
    ---------------------------
    The Criminal Legal Advocate is responsible for attending in-custody arraignments in either the Stillwater or suburban Ramsey County areas, and relays information about criminal domestic assault cases to the clients involved.

    If you are creative, collaborative, inquisitive, and enthusiastic about meaningful storytelling, impactful communication, and participating in various projects simultaneously, you might find the Communications & Marketing Intern role at Tubman the right one for you! Collaborate with Tubman’s Communications team to create marketing materials, update Tubman’s website, develop internal and external communications, create internal communications plans, contribute to multiple projects related to events (including our annual gala), and have a direct impact on how Tubman is presented to the community.

  • Minneapolis - Remote opportunity

    As part of Tubman's Development and Communications team, the Grant Writing Intern will help research grant opportunities, assist in writing proposals and reports, while gaining valuable skills in grant writing in a non-profit organization.
    Time commitment for this position is a minimum of 6 months.

  • Mental Health Interns must be in their second year of a masters or doctoral program. Students co-facilitate groups and carry a caseload of individual clients. Interns become part of the multi-disciplinary team at Tubman Chrysalis in Minneapolis, working alongside staff who represent a wide range of therapeutic styles. They practice in an environment that is trauma-informed, person-centered, strength-based, and uses holistic and harm reduction approaches.

    The NorthStar Youth Outreach Center at Maplewood Mall connects youth and young adults ages 10-24 of all genders, and their children, to a safe place to access basic needs, receive advocacy and resource referrals. Volunteers at the Outreach Center also engage the community about Tubman and the Outreach Center services.

    Volunteer Receptionists serve as the first point of contact to Tubman, providing effective customer service to individuals seeking services or other connections to Tubman. The position includes responding to people in-person, by phone, and via email.

    Tubman Resource Advocates implement person-centered and culturally grounded practices to people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds through safety planning, crisis intervention, emotional support, information and connection to Tubman services, and referrals to community organizations. Resource Advocates provide these services by phone, e-mail, and in-person to individuals seeking support and services at Tubman and in the community. Work is on-site at Tubman Chrysalis in south Minneapolis.

    The Recruitment Assistant works with the Intern & Volunteer Services team to increase the visibility of Tubman’s opportunities in the community by posting open positions on a wide variety of websites and keeping them updated as needed.

    Assist weekend shelter staff with portioning and delivering meals to residents at our Maplewood shelter. Perfect for people working full-time during the week!

    The Shelter Operations Volunteer works as part of the Shelter Team, assisting with a variety of tasks that keep the shelter organized and running smoothly, providing a positive environment for individuals and families living at Tubman’s shelter for victims/survivors of domestic violence.

  • Starlight Soirée Auction Committee Member

    Do you feel at ease speaking with people about something you care about? Don’t have a lot of time to do traditional volunteering? Consider volunteering at part of Tubman’s Starlight Soirée Auction Committee! The Starlight Soirée is Tubman’s annual gala to honor survivors’ journeys from fear to freedom and to celebrate the generous donors who support our mission. Auction Committee members are asked to leverage personal and/or professional networks to generate event support through financial or in-kind contributions which include auction items, gift cards, wine, and growlers. Starlight Soirée Auction Committee members are also encouraged to strategize with Tubman staff to help engage potential event sponsors.

    We are looking for passionate committee members to help us create an amazing event. The 2025 Starlight Soirée will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025. This position is independent with monthly Committee meetings. All Committee Meetings will be held virtually, unless otherwise directed.

    Shelter Youth and Family Worker Interns support children who are living at Tubman’s shelter in Maplewood for families that have experienced domestic violence. Provide individualized, trauma-informed, strength-based care and advocacy through relationship building, on-site activities, field trips, and respite childcare.
    This position works on-site at our Maplewood location.

    Volunteer will be responsible for transporting residents safely and promptly from Tubman East in Maplewood to appointments and errands. Must be at least 21 years old.
