Introduction 

The Netflix series Love & Death highlights the devastating truth that ordinary people are capable of extreme violence when they are pushed to their breaking point. Throughout the series, Candy Montgomery seeks physical and emotional fulfillment by attempting to escape the reality of her unfulfilling marriage with Pat Montgomery. She pursues an affair with her best friend's husband, Allan Gore, which creates tension with Allan's wife, Betty, once she finds out. The secret betrayal from Candy Montgomery and Allan Gore changes the outside world’s perspective on what they thought was a perfect relationship between Candy and Pat. Candy & Pat’s Marriage 

A common sign of an unhealthy relationship is a lack of communication, which is shown in Candy and Pat Mongomery’s relationship. A healthy relationship requires both emotional and physical connection. Although Candy and Pat seemed to have a perfect relationship, it becomes clear that their marriage lacked emotional and physical intimacy. Rather than Candy expressing how she felt and trying to work on their marriage, she chose to seek the emotional and physical intimacy from Allan Gore. Candy’s decision-making demonstrates how a lack of communication can create broken trust, and betrayal that can easily destroy a marriage.

The Betrayal That Turns Violent

The unhealthy decisions made by Candy Montgomery and Allan Gore lead to a horrific tragedy. After Betty Gore becomes suspicious of the affair, she confronts Candy when she comes over to the Gore house to pick up a swimsuit for Betty’s daughter. The conversation begins calmly when Betty confronts Candy about the affair with Allan. At first, Candy fully denies the affair but Betty refuses to believe her. Betty continues to question her until Candy opens up. Candy eventually admits to the affair but tells her that it ended. The conversation between the two quickly becomes emotionally unstable as Betty is hurt from the betrayal. Betty walks away from the conversation and comes back with an axe. Candy then takes the axe from her and hits Betty with it 41 times. What first started as a conversation about suspicion between Candy and Allan escalated into a violent tragedy, highlighting how unhealthy relationship decisions can end in catastrophic consequences.

In conclusion, Love & Death reveals how unhealthy relationships can form when honesty, communication, and trust are broken. By showing the empty marriage of Candy and Pat Mongomery and the affair between Candy and Allan Gore, the Netflix series illustrates how emotional and physical disconnection may lead to poor decision-making that ultimately creates betrayal.
